The Prefs > Email Accounts panel
This panel shows when you click the Prefs button from the Ezian main menu.  The Email Accounts panel is where you maintain all your email accounts.  Before you can use Ezian you must first enter one of your mail accounts.  This would be from a source where you have previously set up a mail account.   If you have your email account information ready, click the New button for a convenient wizard to assist you in entering your account into Ezian.

About email accounts
You can have as many email accounts (sources) as you like. An email account is actually the computer where your email is actually sent through and where mail to you is sent.  If you don't have a mail account, click here for how to get one.  We also refer to an email account as an identity, because you can use different names for each account you set up if you wish.

Email Accounts are your identities
Every time you use the New button to create a new email account, you are also creating a new identity in Ezian. Each new account has its own unique identity, which is also an email address.  With Ezian you can have as many identities (accounts) as you like.  You can then associate identities with the individual addresses you mail to.  When you add names to your addresses (click Names  on the opening screen), you will see a drop down menu to tag that name to one of your identities (email address).    This way, when you correspond to that friend or chat with them, mail will always be sent by the identity you intend, and they will be able to chat with you as that identity.

Types of email accounts:
You can get and send your email two different ways.

  1. Mail Servers:
    1. Your ISP.  This is your internet service provider.  This is where you get your access to the internet. It might be Mindspring.com, or Earthlink.net, or ATT.net, or anyone of thousands of smaller providers. This is also called a POP3 account (stands for Post Office Protocol.)  This does not include AOL, however, because they, unlike all the others, don't allow outside access to their mail system.
    2. Email through a school, or company, or business dot com address.  This is when you are associated with a domain name, either having that name hosted, or having access to email from that domain name.  This is actually the same as an ISP account (POP3), but certainly confusing to some people who have email accounts which have nothing to do with their ISP.
    3. Other POP3 mail account providers. There are several on the web; some are free, and some charge. Ezian provides a short list on the Ezian website of free pop3 account providers.
  2. Yahoo:
Ezian allows you to have Yahoo accounts.  These are called web-based accounts. They are available free to anyone by going to the website yahoo.com.  With Ezian, you never have to visit that site to send or pick up your mail.  Ezian does it all automatically for you.  Mail you send appears to the recipient as though you sent it through that service.
Editing an Account (Identity)
After starting an email account using the wizard, you may wish to change that account's particulars.  Access the screen to Edit an Email Account (identity) by clicking the Prefs button on the opening screen, then choosing Edit from the Email Accounts panel.  Use this form to Edit (change) accounts you previously set up.
